The Original Foodie Tour
We’ll explore together, savoring the rich and authentic flavors of Thailand, while observing and absorbing local culture and lifestyle, and learning about the old Lanna Kingdom that is Chiang Mai.
Thailand’s most loved dishes and desserts can literally be found on every street corner, but you can taste the difference. Take advantage of our decades of local life and tasting knowledge as we take you to the ‘best of’ places for each dish – food made with love and known and frequented by locals in-the-know.
At 9am, all Foodies will meet our tour guide at the Three Kings Monument, located in the Old City. (Specific details on your exact meeting location will be provided with your booking confirmation.)
Our first tasting will be of a simple yet must-eat staple dish of Thailand, Kao Man Gai. The restaurant we will be dining at is a favorite amongst locals and visiting Thai, and has been family owned since 1957. This tasting is only included in our morning tour, as they make a limited amount each day and sell out in the afternoon.
From here we’ll take a quick stroll to visit Wat Chiang Man (the first temple built in the old city). Then we’ll take a short ride to our second tasting, where you’ll try Chiang Mai’s famous version of Burma’s Kao Soi noodle dish. In addition to experiencing this meal and learning about it’s history and origins, you’ll get to meet the family that adapted this dish.
Next is a visit to the Wat Gate Community Museum, and then a walk to Chiang Mai’s number one dessert destination for Sakoo Sai Hmoo and Kao Griap Paak Hmaw. This tasting is only included in our morning tour, as their two specialties sell out shortly after lunch time.
We’ll cross over the Ping River walking bridge and conclude with a street food experience at Warorot Market, which has been around for over a century, and is one of Chiang Mai’s oldest, largest and most diverse open-markets. Inside the market, we’ll stop at five of our favorite stands and try local highlights like freshly made Golden Curl, mango sticky rice, Thai iced tea and more.
The tour will end around 1pm at Warorot Market.
