Our most asked questions…

What is a Foodie Tour?

Our foodie tour is a memorable tasting and cultural experience through hand picked tastes and sites, walking and riding with our experienced and passionate guide/s.  It is recommended for both locals and visitors, as we take our foodies to venues that make our absolute favorite versions of traditional and staple dishes and desserts.  In addition to tasting our way through Chiang Mai, we share our historical and cultural knowledge and visit significant temples and/or museums along the way.

Why should I take a food tour, or other type of tour, with Chiang Mai Foodie Tours?

Because of our people, our cause and our pursuit to delight our clients!  Noot, the owner of Chiang Mai Foodie Tours, was born and raised in Chiang Mai and has been passionate about good food her entire life.  She enjoyed living and learning in the States for almost a decade, and feels so blessed to be back in Thailand sharing her love of food and culture, and providing hope for under-served and under-privileged youth in Northern Thailand.  She has volunteered for nearly 15 years at a local foundation (Jasper Kids Foundation) that works to break the cycle of poverty through love, education and access to opportunity.  Chiang Mai Foodie tours offers employment opportunities and funding to Jasper Kids Foundation.  In fact, one of our tour guides is a former Jasper Kid 🙂  By touring with us, in addition to filling your hearts, minds and bellies with the best of Chiang Mai, you’ll also be giving many children and youth an opportunity for a brighter future!

Can children participate in Foodie Tours?

We love to welcome Young Foodies of all ages! However, due to some moderate walking and factoring in the hot weather, we recommend children ages 6 and up. They must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Children under the age of 6 are free of charge if they share food with accompanied adults.

How much walking is involved?

Approximately 1.5 km (which is about 1 mile) will be covered by walking. Between longer distances, you will take short rides on a local transportation. There will be 3 tasting locations with seating arrangements and 3 bathroom stops will be offered during the tour. For other tasting locations, you will be standing. The pace of eating, walking, riding, and standing in the 4 hour tour will be determined by the group.

Can you provide substitutions for vegetarians or food allergies?

We can provide food substitutions for vegetarians or dietary restrictions on our tours, but please note that many of Thailand’s staple dishes are pork or chicken based.   We have enjoyed hosting private, vegetarian Foodie Tours, so please contact us if you’d like the entire tour tailored to your dietary needs!

How should I dress for the tour?

Please dress casual, comfortable, and appropriate for visiting temple (Thai culture frown upon shorts or skirts that are above the knees and sleeveless shirts and blouses.)

What should I bring on a tour?

A big appetite is a must! Other than that, you can bring along items such as cameras, umbrellas, hats, etc. On our foodie tours we’ll also provide you with bottled water, wet wipes, tissues, plastic gloves (if needed), and all utensils needed for tastings.

Are your foodie tours conducted by licensed tour guides?
